10 Ways to Reset Your Life

Sometimes when life gets messy you just need one big reset. Resetting your life doesn’t have to be extreme; there are many things you can start, let go of, or refresh.

Below, I’ve made a list of 10 ways you can reset your life, but you’ll probably be able to think of even more. This is by no means an exhaustive list of things you must do to change or reset your life. We’re all different and what works for me or for somebody else might not work for you. Pick ones that resonate with you, or be inspired and come up with your own.

1. Get a dumb phone

This is one of the best decisions I’ve personally made and I will be writing about my time with it in a future post. There is a huge cost to smartphones and modern technology, and often we don’t realise it until we’re in a quicksand of addiction, FOMO, and notifications.

2.Delete or deactivate your social media account

It’s amazing how much clear-headed and peaceful you become without the noise and falsities from social media taking up your precious time and energy.

3. Cut out alcohol

There is no benefit to alcohol despite what society, your friends, and the media have you believe. None. People I found especially motivating with quitting alcohol are Sober Leon, and Annie Grace.

4. Change your job/career

Move home/town/country. If you do this be sure that it is for the right reasons; if you do it for escape, the same problems will simply follow you.

5.Do an extreme home declutter

Take the time to declutter every room ruthlessly. Yes, it’s work, but the results will be totally worth it. You could even experiment with minimalism. 😉

6. Declutter your schedule

These days it seems everyone is running around like ants. When somebody asks ‘how are you?’ the default answer is ‘busy’, without a second thought. Take some time out to reflect on what’s truly important in your life before the years pass you by and you’re wondering what the hell happened and where your time went.

7. Reset your finances

I’m no financial expert but one simple way to gain control of your finances could be be a no spend month or year. If you’re interested in the no spend method, Cait Flander’s book ‘The Year of Less’ is a fantastic read.

8. Let go of limiting beliefs and old stories that hold you back

We all have (or used to have) stories we tell ourselves about why we aren’t good enough, can’t pursue our dreams, find a decent partner, or earn enough money. Those stories come from deeply ingrained beliefs from our past experiences or from what we’ve been taught growing up. e.g. ‘I’m horrible with money’, ‘I can’t become (insert dream job here) because…’ Letting these stories go and forming new beliefs is incredibly freeing and life-changing.

9. Start living/exploring an unconventional lifestyle.

Unconventional living is living in a way that isn’t considered to be the norm. This could include one bag travel, minimalism, extreme minimalism, or any other way of life that makes people question your sanity. People who live unconventionally tend to find that they can’t imagine going back to the way things were before.

10. Start a new hobby

I’m always amazed at how many people get stumped when I ask what their hobbies are. Having a hobby is important for mental wellbeing and helps prevent bad habits and escapism from taking over your life. Hobbies are also great for conversations and to keep you from feelings of isolation, boredom, and loneliness. If you already have a hobby but that hobby is starting to feel stale, don’t be afraid to explore new ones and declutter the old one. Watching TV or spending time with your partner do not count as hobbies! A few examples of hobbies include: creative art, writing, photography, playing sports, gardening, playing videogames, creating on Youtube etc. Some hobbies can even turn into a business doing what you love for a living.

If you’re inspired by any of these ideas, or if they’ve triggered ideas of your own, go ahead and start changing your life today.
